A Chivero villager told the traditional court that he fled his wife and children and sought refuge at relatives homes as he could no longer withstand incessant bashing from his wife.

Justin Shereni approached Chief Chiveros traditional court last week seeking a peace order against his wife Fiona Gatsi accusing her of turning their bedroom into a battlefield. He said he fled his family sometime last year.

The woman that she beats her husband and told the court she saw no reason to stop doing so because her husband was irresponsible. The couple used to stay at a farm near the Selous-Harare highway.

Since I got married to this woman I have been living in fear because she always beats me for no reasons at all. She has been controlling me with fists, Shereni told the court.

This wife started beating me a long time ago when she blamed me of not taking care of her. Even when she fell pregnant last year, she continued assaulting me and I had to run away from our matrimonial home, he said.

Shereni told the court he later remarried although he had not yet divorced Gatsi.

I love her so much because she is my first wife. Its just that that she always beats me, but I believe this court can protect me from her abnormal character.

Gatsi however, accused her husband of neglecting the family.

He does not even know how to support his own family and he has never seen his own child. There is no reason why I should stop fighting with him, she said.

Chief Chivero granted Shereni a peace order and asked Gatsi to respect it.
