The 2012 edition of the annual Zimbabwe Pool tournament, Champion Men Blackball Challenge, is on at the Hilltop Bar, Warren Park tomorrow.

The curtain comes down on the Champion Men Blackball Challenge pool tournament with 64 male contenders and 16 females from all over Zimbabwe competing.

The Carling Black Label Beer sponsored-game started in June with regional and provincial knockouts.

The finals comprise three players from Mashonaland East, three from Beitbridge, four men and two women representing Mutare , Marondera three men, Concession three men, Bulawayo six men and four women with Bulawayo’s Sipho Mpofu as the defending champion in the ladies team.

Gweru has a team of eight men and two women, Chiredzi five men, Chitungwiza six men and seven women.

In Harare, 10 men and five women qualified while Karoi has three male representatives.

Tafadzwa Sevenzai from Chitungwiza is the defending men champion. He is confident of winning it again: “I am ready to rule Zimbabwe one more time.”

2012 sees women participating in this tournament for the second time. The defending champion is Bulawayo’s Sipho Sibanda.

This year’s tournament saw pool greats like Harare’s Gaza Hakata, the 2009 champion and Chitungwiza’s Charles Mtimwi being knocked out in the preliminary stages.

Intriguing ties are expected through a knockout tournament up to the final and players are going to play the best of three in the final stage. The winners will automatically be the national ambassadors in all pool tournaments this year.
