A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death by a rival suitor in a brawl over a 47-year-old woman at Berejena village in Chinhoyi.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara yesterday confirmed the death of Norman Chirenje of Dzorai village, Chinhoyi, last Friday.

He said on the fateful day, the woman at the centre of the love triangle, Regina Ncube of Plot 24, Alaska Farm in Chinhoyi, visited her uncle while in the company of one of her lovers only identified as Robson (age unknown). At around 11pm, Chirenje stormed the uncle’s homestead and broke the door of the kitchen hut in which his “sweetheart” and the accused were sleeping.

“A fight between the two men then erupted and accused drew out a multi-blade knife and stabbed the now deceased once in the abdomen,” Mabgweazara said.

Chirenje collapsed and died on the spot. Following the horrific incident the suspect fled the scene.

The matter was reported at ZRP Chinhoyi Rural while the deceased’s body was conveyed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. Investigations were in progress.
