LONDON — Fabrice Muamba carried the Olympic torch through London on Saturday, four months after collapsing on the field during an English football match.

The Bolton midfielder’s heart stopped for 78 minutes on March 17 after collapsing during an FA Cup match at Tottenham.

While he is still not well enough to play, Muamba was able to walk 300 metres with the torch on Saturday as the relay reached London.

The Congo-born player was the day’s final torchbearer in Walthamstow, where he arrived to live in 1999 at the age of 11 after his family escaped the civil war at home.

The torch, which has already travelled across Britain for more than 60 days, will continue to tour London’s streets until it ends its journey at the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony on Friday.
