DUBLIN — Brett Gosper has been appointed as the new chief executive of the International Rugby Board (IRB).

Gosper (53) will also be managing director of the Rugby World Cup.

A former Australia Under-21 international, who also played for Paris side Racing Club, Gosper will begin his role on 15 August.

“Brett Gosper proved himself to be an outstanding candidate during an extensive recruitment process,” IRB chairman Bernard Lapasset said.

“The IRB executive committee unanimously agreed that his strong blend of experience, skills and passion for the game are perfectly suited to the role.”

Gosper said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role at what is such an exciting time for the game.”
