Sexual harassment is unwanted attention of a sexual nature that makes a person uncomfortable or embarrassed. Sexual harassment is typically thought of as something that happens to women and girls; however boys are increasingly becoming targets as well.

Uncomfortable sexual behaviour or comments are often intended to humiliate someone. Teens may feel pressured into behaving in a certain way because of what they see around them.

Many incidents may be labelled as sexual harassment, but some people may not see that they are harming an individual.

This person may not understand the impact of such behaviour. Teens see sexually suggestive images all the time, so they often do not understand why their behaviour is a problem. The images teenagers see are getting more provocative all the time.

There are three types of sexual harassment, the first being visual harassment.

This includes dirty pictures, sexual gestures, suggestive letters, text messages or emails. The second type is verbal harassment, and includes sexual names and jokes, as well as comments about ones body and use of sexual intimidation.

This is usually done when a teenage girl passes by a group of conductors, drunkards and even some men in the street.

These groups of people will start calling out sexual names and trying to get the young girls attention through provocative jokes.

The third type is physical harassment and includes touching, pulling off clothes, rubbing against someone and this contact is usually unsolicited behaviour.

Sexual harassment is about holding power over someone and not respecting their decisions and limits. This can take place amongst teens sexually harassing each other.

Sexual harassment is unwanted behaviour that is one-sided and uses the power of words and actions to make another person feel humiliated and dirty. Teens have to spot the difference between flirting and sexual harassment, for there is a huge a difference.
