Sevens rugby side Mbare Academy got a huge boost when National Foods handed over training equipment worth $10 000 at a function held at Old Georgians Sports Club yesterday.

The equipment comprises boots, socks, cones, balls, ruck shields, water bottles and tracksuits. National Foods head of marketing Anthony Kinnaird said they felt they needed to help these youngsters reach their full potential.

We were impressed by these youngsters at the Cottco rugby festival where they played bare-footed and we saw it fit to invest in this talent through this donation. This is a long-term partnership and we hope from this that future stars for the Zimbabwe Sevens rugby side will be unearthed, Kinnaird said.

Mbare Academy coach Victor Pekani was naturally elated at the development.

I am happy about this and I hope it will improve our rugby as we continue to grow quality players, he said.
