NewsDay photographer Resta Nyamwanza will have her photograph exhibited at the Photoafrica exhibition in Paraguay, South America.

Her photograph, Two Buses and 1 000 People, was nominated as one of the best in the competition.

Nyamwanza’s photograph will be part of 14 others from Africa.

Other photographers whose pictures were nominated are from South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Tunisia, Nigeria and Cameroon.

Nyamwanza said she was happy to have her work nominated.

“I took the photograph at Renkini bus terminus, Bulawayo, in 2009 at the height of the transport blues,” she said.

“There were so many people who needed transport, but could not get it.

“When I arrived there, I found out that there were only two buses and hundreds of people who needed transport.

“Out of many works that are submitted, the panel chooses 15 which make up the exhibition.”

She has exhibited her work in countries such as Namibia, Kenya, Denmark and Spain as well as locally.

According to an e-mail sent to all the nominees by Gaetano Gualdo, one of the organisers of the exhibition, the photographs will also be showcased at the Cultural Centre in Spain.

“These photographs will be reproduced in A1 format and will be exhibited at the Cultural Centre in Spain’s Juan de Salazar as well as the African Film Festival of Asunción,” Gualdo said.
