Knowledge Musona last night had an opportunity of making an early impression at his new German club Augsburg, who were expected to play Scottish football giants Celtic in a pre-season friendly in Donauworth, Bavaria.

Musona, who recently quit the Warriors, was once on the Celtic radar before opting for TSG Hoffenheim.

According to the Scottish media, last night’s match was an opportunity for Celtic coach Neil Lennon — a long-time admirer of Musona — to see his target in action.

“Knowledge Musona will get the chance to show Neil Lennon what he missed when he lines up for Augsburg tonight in the opening game of the Hoops’ pre-season tour,” reported the Glasgow Evening Times.

Musona, formerly of Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, was high on Lennon’s wanted list last summer before Mo Bangura was brought in for £2,2 million as the window was about to close.

But despite Celtic offering to top the £1,3m bid from Hoffenheim for the then Chiefs star, the 22-year-old chose to go to the Bundesliga club, where he scored one goal in the German Cup against Cologne but failed to nail down a regular place in the first team.

He recently quit the Warriors after allegations of match-fixing before the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations second leg qualifier against Burundi. He scored in that match, giving the Warriors a 1-0 win and 2-2 aggregate away goals victory to proceed to the final qualifying round.

The Warriors have been drawn against Angola in the final qualifier. The first leg is on September 9 at home before the return leg in Luanda on the weekend of October 12-14.
