LUPANE — A Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund employee who was involved in an accident, which killed one of the two passengers in her vehicle along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls, had her application for discharge dismissed on Friday.

Mildred Magara (age not given) pleaded not guilty to the charge of culpable homicide when she appeared before Lupane magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba. She was remanded out of custody to July 20 for judgment.

Magara had applied for discharge at the close of the State case, arguing allegations of negligent driving against her had not been proved.

But the State led by Sanders Sibanda successfully opposed her application, which prompted the magistrate to dismiss it with costs.

Denying the charges and applying for discharge, Magara argued the allegations of negligence, which are alleged to have caused the accident, were speculative.

She also denied allegations of speeding, saying she was driving at plus or minus 100 km per hour.
