Dynamos . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (2) 6 WWS Rangers . . . . . . . . . . . . . (0) Call it a six-pack, six pointer or half a dozen, but this is just the tonic Dynamos needed ahead of the Caf Confederations Cup second leg qualifier against Interclube of Angola next weekend.

And yesterday’s hammering of miserable Blue Rangers in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer league match at Rufaro Stadium tells of a team determined to defend their league title and make progress in Africa.

New boy Farai Mupasiri, making his first appearance for Dynamos in a league match, set the hosts on their way with an angled shot from outside the box two minutes into the match before Takesure Chinyama took Tichaona Mabvura’s pass to score with an audacious chip over goalkeeper Seaba Maponga for the second on 26th minute.

It was 2-0 at the break but it easily could have been more against an opposition that seemed to have forgotten their match boots at home.

But if the first half performance for the visitors when they managed a single shot at goal was poor, then the second stanza was just horrible.

Two minutes into the second half, Rodreck Mutuma toe-poked past Maponga from a Chinyama cross on the right.

Further chances were created, almost at will and it was no surprise when Mabvura made it four with a cool finish eight minutes later, placing his shot home to finish arguably the best move of the game.

On the hour mark, Chinyama, who was lively all afternoon, bulldozed his way and from an acute angle produced his trademark powerful left-footed shot that rattled both Maponga and the nets. The big striker who had gone for three months without finding the net could not hide his joy by celebrating the goal with his shirt off, an act that earned him a yellow card.

Rangers’ misfortune was then heightened five minutes from time when their captain Takesure Chiragwi was shown a red card for shirt tagging against Mutuma.

The dreadlocked player had been cautioned earlier on for the same offence against Chinyama. Just when it seemed that Dynamos might have relaxed, Chinyama scored again to complete his hat-trick and Dynamos’ sixth of the match in the 90th minute.

Dynamos assistant coach Tonderai Ndiraya said after the match: “It was a good performance from all the guys and we are quite satisfied. The win is a confidence booster for us and this result will obviously help calm the nerves when we go to Angola.”

Rangers assistant coach Masimba Dinyero said: “We lost the plot when we conceded the first goal. I think it was too easy for them and we never recovered from that mistake. We didn’t play well but from today’s (yesterday) performance we need to bolster our squad. We have identified a couple of players who we are looking to add into the team.”

The ease with which Dynamos strolled to victory bodes well for their trip to Angola this weekend, when a win or a scoring draw will all but secure progression into the Caf Confederations Cup group stages. But more pleasing for the Harare giants coach Kalisto Pasuwa will be the performance of Chinyama, who silenced his critics with a performance rich both in class and elegance.
