State-owned mobile phone operator, NetOne has secured a $3,5 million new billing system from a Finish information technology and Nasdaq-listed firm, in a bid to reclaim its market share.

Telecoms IT solutions provider Tecnotree, yesterday announced that it had secured a phased contract to supply a convergent customer care and billing system for its pre-paid and post-paid operations.

The new system is expected to be installed by year end.

The Tecnotree solution, according to a statement issued by the company, is a comprehensive BSS (Business Support System) suite incorporating customer management, service provision, mediation and billing and a system for interconnect billing and partner management.

To ensure a smooth and successful implementation, the solution is delivered as a turnkey project including hardware, software licenses and professional services.

“NetOne is pleased to have partnered with Tecnotree in this important service area, as the company gears itself to provide content and data services to its customers across the country, ranging from the urban areas, tourist resorts and the remote rural areas,” NetOne managing director Reward Kangai said.

“We have no doubt that given NetOne’s widest network coverage across the country, this partnership with Tecnotree will give NetOne another source of competitive advantage.” Tecnotree vice-president for Middle East and Africa Kerry Koutsikos, said, “Bringing aboard a new customer and starting a new relationship is always a moment of pride for us.

“The higher gratification, however, is in knowing that we are empowering an industry, which touches the lives of millions of people every day.

“We are extremely happy to be partnering with NetOne’s vision of reaching out to every Zimbabwean and enriching their lives.

“We look forward to a long lasting partnership with NetOne in the years to come.”
