Mbada Diamonds, which last week scooped Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce corporate social responsibility award, has invested more than $20 million into community development and other philanthropic activities.
The company has been actively taking part in the construction and rehabilitation of community schools, rehabilitation of road networks, provision of portable water through borehole drilling, as well as provision of scholarship to academically-gifted, but financially challenged students.
Mbada Chief executive Patience Khumalo, received the award on behalf of the company from Vice-President Joice Mujuru.
The company’s corporate services executive George Manyaya said the diamond firm was determined to continue “harnessing diamonds for the people”.
More than 7 000 families in Chiadzwa have so far benefited from the company’s quarterly $500 000 food distribution exercise.
Manyaya said the award was dedicated to Mbada chairperson Robert Mhlanga.
“As Mbada Diamonds employees, we would like to dedicate this award to our chairman Robert Mhlanga,” he said.
“His passion for uplifting communities is once again manifest through this national recognition. Where teamwork is present, mountains are conquerable. I would also like to thank the Mbada Diamonds employees for the ‘diamondiferous’ efforts towards corporate social responsibility.”
