Dewure High School and Goromonzi High School were crowned the boys and girls’ champions respectively at the Nash Under-14 Top Schools Basketball Championship held at Jameson High over the weekend.
Dewure beat Goromonzi 35-15 in the boys’ final while Goromonzi girls’ team atoned for the defeat by the boys’ team by beating Mufakose 15-10 in the final. In the girls’ tournament Tinotenda Nyanhete from Goromonzi was named the tournament’s most valuable player while Tatenda Toro from Dewure scooped the same award in the boys’ category.
A total of 24 teams, 12 boys and 12 girls’ teams from all the country’s provinces graced the annual basketball tournament. The tournament got underway with the team’s arranged in four groups of three teams each with the top two teams progressing to the quarter-finals.
