Gunners defender Byron Madzokere was yesterday expected back into the country after failing trials with a number of South African clubs, the latest being SuperSport United.

Madzokere was on trials at the Pretoria side since last week, and while reports said he impressed during the trial stint, coach Gavin Hunt stated he was looking for a more experienced defender. This was confirmed by Madzokere’s manager Ali Tlhoaele yesterday.

“Byron Madzokere has gone back home. Gavin (Hunt) admitted that he is a good player, but his concern is that he is inexperienced to get a deal at the club at this stage,” said Tlhoaele.

Madzokere, alongside teammate Fungai Chirinda, went to South Africa last month after impressing Tlhoaele during Gunners’ match against Dynamos. Tlhoaele, who facilitated Ramson Zhuwawo and Carrington Nyadombo’s moves from Gunners to Absa Premiership side Amazulu had come to have a look at Leonard Fiyado and Cliff Sekete during the match, but later changed his mind and took along the two defenders instead.

Madzokere had trials at Amazulu before he went to Bloemfontein Celtic. His last destination was SuperSport United.

Chirinda is reportedly still at Amazulu where a deal is said to be imminent.
