Former Highlanders and Dynamos players have predicted a tough, but exciting encounter when two of the country’s oldest and biggest teams clash in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Dynamos have had an upper hand over Highlanders in the past few years.

Last year the two sides played a goalless draw at Barbourfields Stadium before Highlanders went on to lose 3-1 in Harare.

Former Highlanders striker Tobias Mudyambanje said it was going to be a tough match.

“The match between Highlanders and Dynamos is very big because they are rival teams from two cities. It was an honour for us to win against Dynamos because it meant that we had conquered our major rival. There was a lot of tension and supporters used to come in numbers to watch the team training,” he said.

He added: “It is going to be a tough match but both teams are playing average football. The match can go either way. Highlanders have been dropping points at home in the past two games which is not good. If Highlanders captain Innocent Mapuranga commands his team well we can win the match. Takesure Chinyama is a threat because he uses his big body and if Highlanders contain him we can win.”

Another former Highlanders striker Zenzo Moyo predicted victory for Bosso.

“Highlanders are going to win 3-0. The problem is these days players do not have the fighting spirit like we used to. The good thing about Highlanders is that there are no star players but any player can just rise to the occasion,” he said.

Former Highlanders defender Gift Lunga Junior who hung his boots at the end of last season said Dynamos are an unpredictable team.

“Victory is not always guaranteed. The match is motivating. Highlanders have been playing second fiddle to Dynamos over the years, but we want to get the three points this time,” he said.

“So far Highlanders are playing as a team and I would like to urge fans to come in their thousands. Fans should desist from violence and not throw missiles and accept the outcome of the game,” he said.

Another former Highlanders player Willard Mashinkila Khumalo predicted victory for Highlanders.

“It is a self-motivating game where everyone wants to play and perform well. The better team of the day will win but I am putting my money on Highlanders,” he said.

Warriors assistant coach David Mandigora had a few words on Sunday’s encounter but predicted an exciting game.

“It is going to be a very good game. It will be a very competitive match,” he said.

Motor Action assistant coach David George said the match result was unpredictable.

“The match is a clash of two big teams and it will be a good game. Tension will be very high but I used to enjoy playing against Highlanders as we used to take the match very seriously. I do not know how today’s players treat the game, but it will be a 50-50 affair,” he said.

Monomotopa coach Taurai Mangwiro said he was anticipating a tough match.

“I wish success to Dynamos because we owe a lot to that club. It promises to be a very tricky match because Highlanders are playing well and enjoying a rich vein of form. Highlanders are unbeaten after 14 starts and Dynamos need to work hard if they are to salvage something from the game. Dynamos will pose a strong challenge as they are out of the Confederations Cup,” said the former Dynamos player.
