JOHANNESBURG – Hwange and Zambia defender Aaron Katebe has opted to attend trials in Europe instead of Mamelodi Sundowns. The defender said: “No I am not going to Sundowns. My agent has decided to take me to Europe instead.”

On Tuesday Katebe told NewsDay Sport he would soon be leaving for South Africa where he would undergo trials at newly promoted Chippa United before going to Europe for further trials.

The 20-year-old defender already has two senior Zambia caps after playing in friendly matches against Angola on May 16 and Malawi on July 6. Meanwhile, Katebe said he was excited to have scored a goal for Hwange last Sunday in their 2-1 away win over Caps United in Harare.

Katebe scored the opening goal in the 42nd minute for the eighth-placed side against struggling giants Caps United.

“I scored a goal after coming off two losses with the national team,” an excited Katebe said. Hwange are currently eighth on the Caslte Lager Premier Soccer league table on 20 points, 12 less than unbeaten leaders Highlanders.
