HURUNGWE – Police have arrested a 49-year-old woman who allegedly stabbed to death a fellow female villager with a knife following a brawl over a debt.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokespersons, Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the arrest of Dorica Bhanzi for the murder of Office Kanyama (age unknown) last Friday.

Police said on June 29 around 6pm at Gatshe-Gatshe Irrigation Scheme in Magunje, the two had a heated argument which resulted in the now deceased slapping the accused in the face and she fell to the ground.

Bhanzi, who was removing fish scales using a multi-blade knife, in retaliation stabbed the now deceased once in the right side of the neck causing her to bleed profusely.

Police said the deceased’s cousin Sonny Ndoro who was present rendered first aid while Jonathan Chaparanganda disarmed the accused, who tried to flee but was apprehended.

Ndoro rushed to get transport to ferry Kanyama to hospital but upon return 30 minutes later found her already dead.

Bhanzi was arrested by a member of the neighbourhood watch committee and handed over to police at Magunje.

Kanyama’s body was taken to Karoi District Hospital for post-mortem.
