BANKET— A 19-year-old Darwendale man, Annaphy Tamino, has been jailed for an effective seven-month term for attempting to rape a 46-year-old woman after gate-crashing into her bathroom.
The court heard that on June 29 at around 8pm at Squatodi Farm in Darwendale, Tamino entered the bathroom in which the woman was bathing. He gagged her mouth and pushed her into a corner in a bid to rape her.
However, the woman drew the attention of her neighbours after she screamed for help.
The neighbours rushed to the scene where they immediately effected a citizen’s arrest, the court heard.
She sustained multiple injuries on the elbow, back, mouth and left eye.
Magistrate Farai Gwitima slapped accused with a 12-month jail term but conditionally suspended five months.
