Upcoming music group, Tangapasi Band, which recently toured South Africa, has bemoaned lack of support for the arts in Zimbabwe.

Tangapasi Band leader Sinini Ngwenya said the group had received tremendous support in South Africa during the tour.

Ngwenya was speaking in a phone-interview with NewsDay from Durban.

Tangapasi are winners of the Chibuku Road to Fame competition for Matabeleland South.

“We have been performing at the Rainbow Theatre, in Pinetown, Durban. It is a huge venue and people have been coming in numbers to support us. That is something that is lacking in Zimbabwe,” said Ngwenya.

The band’s style is a fusion of reggae, Afro-jazz, folk, rock, Kalanga rhythms and traditional Ndebele harmonies.

They have three songs at the moment titled Africa, Umoyomubi and Birds of a Feather.

“We have not recorded an album owing to lack of funds,” he said. “We have only recorded a demo which we will distribute around so that people can have a feel of our music.”

Ngwenya said after the tour, the five member group will stage performances in Plumtree where they hail from.

They are scheduled to return to South Africa later this year.
