GWERU — Gweru City Council is still working on by-laws that would allow it to clamp vehicles parked in undesignated areas, a senior official has said.

According to the local authority’s 2012 budget, clamping of vehicles was expected to improve council’s revenue collection base.

But town clerk Daniel Matawu said the necessary by-law was yet to be gazetted.

“We are going to delay introducing clamping until August or September this year,” he said.

“We are working on modalities and a by-law is still to be gazetted and once that is in place, then we can start marking the streets in which we will clamp (wrongly parked vehicles).”

He said council would also acquire equipment for the exercise.
