Chief Wait Gwesela of Zhombe is reportedly embroiled in a $1 500 debt wrangle with a Kwekwe car dealer after he failed to pay the balance for a commuter omnibus he bought last month.

The car dealer, Vusani Grey Diamond Sibanda, has since engaged lawyers to recover his money from the traditional leader.

Sibanda’s lawyer Valentine Mutatu said the traditional leader bought a commuter omnibus from his client for $6 500 but only paid $5 000, promising to pay the balance on May 30 this year.

However, the chief allegedly reneged on his pledge and demanded a refund after having used the vehicle for more than a month.

In his letter of demand dated June 20, Mutatu said: “We have instructions that sometime in May 2012 you entered into an oral agreement with our client in respect of an LDV 400 Series minibus. In terms of the agreement, our client sold to you the minibus for the sum of $6 500.

“The whole amount was due on or before 30 May 2012. To date you have paid $5 000 leaving a balance of $1 500.” Mutatu added that if the chief failed to pay the balance with interest and legal charges, he would institute legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, Chief Apollo Nhlope Sigodho was recently convicted for assaulting a Silobela police officer. He was sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment with the option of a fine.
