The High Court has ordered the sale of Conte Shoes (Pvt) Ltd after the company was placed under liquidation early this year.

A notice of sale carried in a weekly paper on Thursday last week indicated that Auction City, a local firm, will handle the disposal.

Tenders for documents closed last Friday.

“On behalf of Teresa Grimmel, in her capacity as the liquidator of Conte Shoes (Pvt) Ltd (in liquidation) we offer for sale by public tender the entire plant, machinery and stock of the business situated in Msasa industrial area,” reads part of the notice.

“Conte Shoes is well known for manufacturing enterprise of long standing.

‘The assets being the contents (only) of the factory were used in the manufacture of footwear until very recently.

“The machinery is of varying ages, but serviceable as one would expect from a running concern.

“In addition, there is a large quantity of stock-in-trade comprising bolts of shoe upper and inner material, buckles, eyelets, soles and heels etc.”

The first meeting of creditors was held in April where they were required to submit their claims and supporting documents.

The company was once placed under provisional judicial management more than a decade ago.

At that time Cecil Madondo was appointed co-judicial manager with Rob McIndoe.
