MUTARE — Warring MDC-T factions in Manicaland have agreed to bury the hatchet after the intervention of senior party officials.

The party also lifted the suspension of two MPs who were sidelined for their alleged involvement in the infighting.

A delegation led by MDC-T organising secretary Nelson Chamisa, his deputy Abednico Bhebhe, and Women’s Assembly boss Theresa Makone, among others, reportedly managed to quell the infighting by co-opting other members involved into the provincial executive.

Chamisa yesterday said the suspension of MPs David Chimhini (Mutasa North) and Trevor Saruwaka (Mutasa Central) had been lifted.

“The good news is the suspensions were reversed on account of good spirit and noble intentions to work together,” he said.

“At the very minimum we want to retain the 20 seats but at the maximum and most importantly we have to win all the 26 seats in Manicaland.”

MDC-T Manicaland provincial spokesperson Pishayi Muchauraya said they came out a united family after the meeting.

“Infighting and divisions are now a thing of the past. Those perceived misunderstandings are now history,” he said.

“We agreed to work as a united force to confront any possible threats to our family.

“With this new unity we hope that we will retain our 20 seats in Parliament and also claim those in the hands of Zanu-PF.

“We are happy that the national organising department managed to do its core business, that is to ensure that all the systems are functioning and gaps are closed,” he added.

Since the Bulawayo congress last year, swords had been drawn between two rival factions in Manicaland.

In September last year, MDC-T secretary-general Tendai Biti was accused of taking sides after he reprimanded several MPs, a senator and other provincial and district members following an alleged plot to topple the sitting executive.
