Vimbai Mutinhiri, who first hogged the limelight as a model before she graced the screen as a Big Brother Africa housemate and various other big events as MC, was on Monday evening spotted by TV viewers co-hosting Star Gist, a new entertainment magazine show which premiered on Africa Magic Entertainment (DStv Channel 129).

Biola Alabi, Mnet Africa managing director, said the weekly show was about giving viewers exclusive star profiles, showbiz buzz, up-to-the-minute entertainment news, behind-the-scenes (BTS), features, continental and international headlines daily.

The show also features Lawrence Maleka of South Africa. Popularly known as Miss Vee, Mutinhiri said she auditioned to be a host for Star Gist because she felt it was time to get back on continental television.

“This was the perfect opportunity to get deeply involved in the entertainment industry which I am passionate about. Star Gist is a watershed for African entertainment — it’s about finally giving our artists a platform to be celebrated and appreciated,” said Mutinhiri.

“We have more success stories than we give ourselves credit for. This time viewers will be able to step into the lives of their favourite African celebrities daily. If we do not celebrate our own, who will?” she queried.

Star Gist features African entertainment news daily and exciting programme segments.

“Fashion enthusiasts will be excited to see hot ticket red carpet events, and not just the glitz and glamour of the event but details on who was wearing which designer outfit where.”

BTS literally goes behind-the-scenes on shoot locations for music videos, movies and television shows. The comedy segment will be done similar to the celebrity profiles except that it will feature comedians from all over the continent. There will also be some believe-it-or-not moments as the show takes a peek into the lavish and sometimes unbelievable lifestyles of celebrities on a bit called Big Bawlerz.

Programme highlights on the channel include business movers and shakers being profiled as they share amazing human success stories from around Africa, music reviews, luxury toy round-ups, jets, hot cars, latest gadgets and up-to-the minute technology, such as cool applications for iPods or tablets.

The Star Gist gig guide will focus on events around major cities around the continent. Monday will round-up the weekend in Africa while Friday kicks off the weekend to come.
