Three members of Kwekwe Primary School Development Association (SDA) were arrested over the weekend on fraud allegations involving over $3 000.

Kwekwe district police spokesperson Detective Sergeant Israel Mhondiwa confirmed the arrests and identified the suspects as SDA chairperson Garikai Mbira (41), treasurer Alexse Mwafumbika (41) and committee member Daniel Mzenda (44).

Mhondiwa said the trio was accused of stealing $3 216 from the school after forging building material receipts in case number KKC CR53/06/2012. “We did not hold them in custody since they presented themselves to the police. We expect the matter to go to court by Tuesday (today),” Mhondiwa said.

It is alleged the three bought cement worth $3 150 from Shereketo Hardware on May 31 this year but submitted a forged receipt reflecting $3 450. They later allegedly bought 3 400 industrial bricks from Summit Distributors for $1 224 and submitted another forged receipt reflecting $1 530.

In the third count the trio bought 5 800 bricks for $4 640 and submitted a forged receipt indicating $7 250.

As a result the trio allegedly defrauded the school of $3 216. Last year, the school headmaster Godfrey Machayaya was sentenced to a wholly suspended six-month prison term after he was convicted of stealing $1 200 in another fraud case.
