A bevy of 35 international models is expected in the country tomorrow for the shooting of a reality documentary for a German television station.

The shooting of the documentary, which will be aired on Redseven TV in September, is expected to commence on Sunday and end on June 24 in Victoria Falls.

Zimbabwe has been selected as the best African destination for recording the reality show titled Million Dollar Models owing to its unique scenery, flora and fauna encapsulated in the majestic Victoria Falls.

Sugar Chagonda, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) head corporate affairs said the seal of approval was granted by the German’s top entertainment television station, Redseven who recently visited the country on a scouting mission.

“Zimbabwe was endorsed after rigorous and strict selection criteria that took into account the uniqueness of the tourist offering, community tourism, availability of natural tourist options and culture, among other things,” he said.

The documentary which will be recorded by Pro 7 TV, aims at promoting the most spectacular destinations in the world through use of professional models who will pose for a renowned photographer in order to find one best picture for the international campaign.

Commenting on this development, ZTA chief executive Karikoga Kaseke said the project would put the country on the spotlight and further market the country’s tourism destinations.

“We are excited about this project poised to portray the attractiveness of the Victoria Falls destination. This latest project by the Germans will be a major contribution to the country’s tourism. 2012 is projected to witness a 9% increase in arrivals from this top-spending primary source market” said Kaseke.

The Million Dollar Models documentary will also, apart from Zimbabwe, include top destinations like Iceland and Israel.

Kaseke said the selection of Zimbabwe ahead of other destinations, further confirms the increasing popularity of Zimbabwe’s tourism worldwide.

“The reality TV documentary prepares the country for more tourists and shows the country’s readiness to host the forthcoming 20th session of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation Congress in August 2013.”
