BANKET — In a bizarre incident that has left Banket residents in Mashonaland West province dumbfounded, a 22-year-old security guard set a fire to warm himself and a colleague on the trunk of a tree which later fell and crushed him to death.

The incident occurred at Riverhead Farm at around 4am on Sunday.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the death of Anywork Tembo, adding the now deceased was on duty together with his workmate Brighton Chininga (28), who was manning the same farm.

The two reportedly set fire on a dry gumtree that was next to their place of guard and at about 4am the tree fell and struck Tembo on the chest and he died on the spot.

A report was made to Banket police who attended the scene and ferried the body to Banket Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
