Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo poked fun at Tsholotsho senator Believe Gaule (MDC-T) after he invited him to rejoin Zanu PF to safeguard his political career.

Speaking at the installation of Brilliant Nhlonipho Moyo as Chief Tategulu in Tsholotsho last week, Chombo urged Zanu PF supporters to rally behind their party candidates to ensure a resounding victory in the forthcoming general elections.

“There is one who was once a (Zanu PF) district co-ordinating committee chairperson,” said Chombo satirically referring to Gaule.

“We ask him that he returns to the party otherwise the senatorial seat will evade him.”

But Gaule dismissed Chombo’s assertions saying: “He must be joking because I would never do what he is saying. I would never go back to Zanu PF.”

Chombo told Zanu PF supporters to retain former Information minister Jonathan Moyo as parliamentary candidate and Matabeleland North governor Sithokozile Mathuthu as acting provincial chairperson.

“You are lucky to have the best thinking and articulate Member of Parliament like (Professor) Jonathan Moyo. The province is led by Mathuthu. This woman works very hard. Do not take her work for granted. She is the acting chairperson of Matabeleland North (Zanu PF) and I would like to urge you to keep it that way,” Chombo said.

“There are some who want to challenge President Robert Mugabe. If it is (MDC-T leader Morgan) Tsvangirai, I do not know, but my bones are refusing (to accept that).”
