A member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Constable Daniel Mafudza, recently landed himself in trouble after he allegedly attempted to sell fake $50 notes for $30 each to an airtime vendor in the city.

The incident allegedly occurred on May 11 this year at Kwekwe bus terminus.

It is alleged Mafudza, who is based at Zhombe Police Station, approached Emmanuel Chikaanwa, an airtime vendor, and offered him the fake notes in exchange for real cash at the rate of $50:$30.

However, Chikaanwa mobilised fellow vendors and conducted a citizen’s arrest of the policeman.

The vendors searched Mafudza’s pockets and allegedly recovered fake notes worth $800.

When they quizzed him, Mafudza allegedly admitted he wanted to raise cash to pay off his debts using genuine currency.

Mafudza was then handed over to the police and subsequently appeared in court on a fraud charge.

He was remanded out of custody to June 4 on $50 bail.
