Indigenous Zimbabweans should have an appreciation of conservation issues and contribute towards the protection and management of wildlife in whatever way possible, managing director of Liquid Telecom Wellington Makamure said last Thursday.

Makamure said this as his organisation handed over vehicles worth $50 000 to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority. He said he was moved to donate to the Authority following reports that elephants were dying in Hwange National Park due to lack of water.

The vehicles will help the Authority carry out and achieve administrative work and field deployments, he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Parks board member Jerry Gotora challenged locals to help them manage and protect the countrys national parks saying they were the countrys heritage.

He added that the country should not wait for foreigners to come and fill the gap when there were Zimbabweans who were capable.

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority director-general Vitalis Chadenga said the donation was testimony of the good relations between his organisation and the community.
