Police in Manicaland have released the names of the five people who died in an accident that occurred along the Mutare-Harare Road last Thursday.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Enock Chishiri identified the deceased as Gilbert Kanenungo, Gift Kanenungo, Tanyaradzwa Benza, James Antonio and another one identified only as Jamakanga.

The accident involved a Toyota Ipsum vehicle, a Nissan Hardbody pick-up truck and a haulage truck.

It happened at the 183-kilometre peg near Rusape where all the five were killed on the spot.

According to initial police investigations, the Toyota Ipsum and the Hardbody side-swiped each other, forcing the Ipsum to encroach into the way of an oncoming haulage truck.

Due to the increase in the volume of traffic on our roads, drivers should be patient and avoid speeding and unnecessary overtaking, Chishiri said.
