Gunners…….….2 Hardbody…(1) 1

Gunners came from behind to edge Hardbody in a Castle Larger Premier Soccer League match at Lafarge Stadium yesterday.

Hardbody were enjoying a fine afternoon with some enterprising play especially in the opening half when captain Callisto Maheya thrust them ahead in the 43rd minute.

But Valentine Ndaba equalised for Gunners two minutes after the breather before 2011 Soccer Star of the Year finalist Cliff Sekete grabbed the winner in the 83rd minute.

Although Hardbody’s dominant play failed to pay dividends, it left Gunners assistant coach Thanks Tengwe not satisfied with his team’s showing.

“I am not very happy with the way we played this afternoon (yesterday), but that does not matter anymore because we got the three points which is the most important thing. I think we have to sharpen our strikeforce so that we do not miss chances,” said Tengwe.

From the opposite dugout, Hardbody coach Tavaka Gumbo felt they deserved to win. “We played very well, but just conceded two soft goals and that was it.

“Our defence was not intact as the boys at the back failed to protect our goal,” said Gumbo.

Maheya put his side into the lead when he shot past Gunners goalkeeper Prosper Chigumba after being set up by an impressive Richard Jongwe.

Two minutes into the second period, Andrew Chuma failed to clear the ball for Hardbody when he headed to Ndaba whose out-footer was unreachable for Tapiwa Marime in goal for the busmen.

Sekete then sealed victory for Gunners when he headed in Leonard Fiyado’s cross.
