The Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) today enters fifth day with a whirlwind of shows that will see some of the best acts performing as the festival nears the end.
Coca-Cola today presents South African musician Steve Kekana at Telecel Main Stage as part of their launch of the “One Billion Reasons to Believe in Africa” campaign. He comes to be part of the African Happiness Manifesto campaign spearheaded by the Coca-Cola Company.
In any case, having a visually impaired artiste of Kekana’s calibre is befitting. Kekana has over 20 albums to his name and has stood the test of time as one of the most talented singers and songwriters in his country.
In a statement Mona Karingi, Coca-Cola senior franchise brand manager, said Africans should start viewing their continent differently.
“The world sees Africa as dark, hopeless and stricken with disease, conflict and poverty,” said Karingi.
“Both local and international media focus on negative news because that is what sells. People and particularly Africans are tired of this image because Africa has a lot of positive news to offer.
“Coca-Cola hopes to inspire everyone to see the bright side of African reality. We want to encourage Africans to turn things around and be proud of the continent they live on.”
The day will also see one of Africa’s most celebrated artists, Ismaël Lô, perform at the Telecel Main stage.
