In-form striker Nelson Mazivisa struck his sixth goal of the season as Shabanie Mine beat Hardbody in a tough Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Mandava Stadium yesterday.

Although Shabanie failed to reclaim top sport from Chicken Inn on goal difference, the result lifted then one place up into second position with 11 points, the same as the leaders.

After shocking Hwange 2-0 last week, Hardbody remain stuck in the relegation zone with just three points.

Shabanie coach Luke Masomere expressed his delight at the way his players carried themselves to destroy Hardbody’s resilience.

“I am very happy with my guys who put up a spirited performance. They played a good game and we managed to get all three points. Hardbody came here and fought hard, but I think we were the better side.

“We made a few mistakes here and there just like other human beings, but it is good to continue with such good form,” said Masomere.

His opposite number Tavaka Gumbo, however, differed as he felt his side was the better team of the afternoon.

“It was a good game which we were just unfortunate to lose. Shabanie Mine got their chance and scored, but in terms of tactical awareness, we were better than them. We are on the right track and relegation is still not an issue for us.”

Shabanie tested the visitors in the 16th minute when Caleb Masocha’s overhead kick went just wide. The afternoon’s defining moment then came in the 34th minute when Masocha shrugged off a challenge from Cornelius Simango to set up Mazivisa, who coolly slotted home past Hardbody goalkeeper Alexander Useni.

Meanwhile, former skipper Gerald Ndlovu converted from the penalty spot in the 26th minute as Hwange beat new boys Buffaloes at the Colliery yesterday.

Striker Francisco Zvikumbawire was hacked down by Buffaloes defender Philip Chandisaita inside the penalty box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Chandisaita earned himself yellow card for the foul on Zvikumbawire.
