Hwange fans have a rare chance to see the Mighty Warriors in action when they face Zambia in an international football friendly match at the Colliery Stadium today.

The Mighty Warriors are warming up for the crucial African Women Championships last round qualifiers against Nigeria next month while the Zambian are preparing for a date with Banyana Banyana of South Africa.

Mighty Warriors head coach Rosemary Mugadza yesterday told NewsDay Sport that they were fully geared up for the friendly match.

“Our preparations for the match have gone on well so far. The girls are ready for the match and they are fit. It is going to be a tough encounter, but we are going to give it our best shot,” she said.

Mugadza urged the Hwange community to come and rally behind the team.

“We are encouraging fans to come and support the team. It is good that we are playing outside Harare because we need to spread the games to all the provinces. We also have new players like Viola Ndlovu and Talent Mazetese. I am also expecting the new players in the team to play well,” she said.

“The Zambians know we have beaten South Africa twice so we expect a tough challenge from them,” Mugadza said.

Zimbabwe have reliable goalkeeper Onai Chingawo who is also the captain of the team while Chido Dzingirai is another option between the posts.

The Mighty Warriors will bank on strikers Rudo Neshamba and Rutendo Makore who were part of the team that lost to Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers. The Zambians should be wary of Makore as she can be lethal upfront.

She scored a hat-trick when Zimbabwe beat Mozambique 3-0 in Maputo in the World Cup qualifiers before they were stopped by Nigeria in the next round.

Zimbabwe also have Felistus Muzongondi, Marjoury Nyaumwe, Nokuthula Ndlovu, Erina Jeke, Kudakwashe Basopo, Samukelisiwe Zulu and Lynnette Mutokoto.

The Mighty Warriors last played a competitive match against Botswana in January.
