The Culture Fund Trust of Zimbabwe (CFTZ) has embarked on a project to assist aspiring musicians to record their music.
To date the programme has identified eight artists who applied for musical recording funding four of whom have already released their projects onto the market.
Olga Muhwati from CFTZ week said the initiative was born out of a set of strategic goals set by the new board that was elected last year.
“The set goals include the establishment of a sustainable fund with a strong fund management capacity,” said Muhwati.
“They also agreed to identify talent and create platforms for innovation and space to grow the culture sector and provide access to finance, markets, and skills for culture agents.”
The music recording programme was born out of this restrategising and is designed for selected talented artists wanting to record their music. Muhwati said CFTZ would buy studio time from duly registered recording companies for this purpose.
“The Culture Fund will pay for the studio hours up to the point of mastering as well as a portion of CDs of the completed project so as to give the artist a starting point with materials,” she said.
In previous years CFTZ would purchase musical instruments for artists among other grants, but due to the tremendous request for funding from the sector the new initiative was necessitated.
