The Zimbabwean motor rally husband-and-wife duo of Jess and Sasha Watson have lost their lead on the FIA African Rally Championship standings to Zambia’s Mohammed Essa and his Zimbabwean co-driver Greg Stead.

This is after the pair did not take part in the Sasol Rally which took place in Nelspruit, South Africa, this weekend.

The Sasol Rally was the second leg of the eight-legged FIA African Rally Championship and also the third round of the South African Rally Championship series.

Essa and Stead finished 13th on the overall standings in the Sasol Rally, but were the fourth highest placed of the crews registered in the FIA African Rally Championship.

Essa and Stead now lead both the drivers and co-drivers’ championship standings on 27 points while Jess ad Sasha are in second position on 25 points.

The South African pair Mark Cronje and Robin Houghton won the Sasol Rally to move into third position on the provisional FIA African Rally Championship standings despite having the same number of points as the Zimbabwean pair.

Giancarlo Davite and Sylvia Vindevogel from Rwanda are in fourth place on 22 points ahead of the Zimbabwean pair of Craig Green and Mike Exton on 18 points.
