An alleged drunken master was run over by a car after he failed to give way to an oncoming vehicle along Chivhu-Nyazura Road last Friday.

Wellington Misango (45) of Giyayi village in Makoni was coming from a beer-drinking binge at Rukweza beerhall around 10pm at the 182km peg when Ignatius Mupati (43) allegedly ran over him. Mupati was driving along the road and did not suspect that there was a drunken person in the road.

“What happened is that Mupati was driving along Chivhu-Nyazura road when all of a sudden he saw Misango visibly drunk.

“It was too late for him to take action resulting in the accident and Misango died on the spot,” said Manicaland police assistant spokesperson Sergeant Muzondiwa Clean.

Misango was taken to Rusape District Hospital mortuary and police have appealed to all road users to be wary of other road users.

“Both pedestrians and motorists should exercise maximum caution and avoid unnecessary accidents such as this one,” said Clean.
