Police impounded over 700 vehicles over the just-ended Easter and Independence holidays as part of their ongoing clampdown on unregistered and defective vehicles.
Police General Headquarters officer-in- charge (Press and public relations) Blessmore Chishaka said yesterday the majority of the 752 impounded vehicles were unregistered.
We impounded 752 vehicles during the two recent holidays and most of them were unregistered. Every vehicle should be registered. There is no reason for one to drive a vehicle with no registration, said Chishaka.
He said the exercise was aimed at curbing robbery and hit-and-run incidents involving use of unregistered vehicles.
It becomes difficult for us to track down some of the owners of the vehicles that would have been involved in some crimes that would have been committed, Chishaka said.
We will intensify the crackdown on unregistered vehicles because they have become a problem on the roads and until the citizens abide by the rules, he added.
