It is rare for artistes to steal the show at popular sporting events, but scores of fans who thronged the City Sports Centre last Friday for a basketball event were left asking for more after breathtaking performances from local artistes.

The legendary American street basketball team, And1, was taking on team Zimbabwe which featured Robert Mugabe (Jr) in its arsenal.

For the first time at such an event the ladies were outdone when it came to matters of fashion with most men wearing expensive sneakers.

First to step on the stage was Mc Chita, clad in a white T-shirt and jeans complete with a striking shiny black jacket.

The rapper was joined on stage by Roki as they performed their duets Gimme That and Dandaro, the two gelled well much to the delight of the appreciative crowd.

Speaking after his performance, Mc Chita said there were a lot of similarities between basketball and hip hop.

These two (basketball and hip- hop) are both black-oriented and dominated, they influence each other a lot in terms of fashion and their culture is almost the same, he said.

He added that it was a great honour for him to perform at such a stage that featured some of the most celebrated basketball players like Hot Sauce and Spyda.

Award-winning rapper Tehn Diamond drew wild cheers from the fans when he performed his popular track Grown Up Kid.

He was later joined by Junior Brown as they again sent the crowd into frenzy with their latest single, Hepi.

During halftime break hip-hop dance crew Reflex stunned fans as they danced to Winky Ds Musarova big man.

The talented crew skillfully converted the lyrics of the song in well choreographed moves much to the amazement of the crowd.

Back on the court it was always loud cheers each time Robert Mugabe (Jr), clad in red sneakers, romanced the ball with his knavish touches. Sporting a ginger-tinted mohawk hairstyle, Robert Jr wore jersey number three with the name Stizz since most basketball players use nicknames.

Other funky names from team Zimbabwe included Drastick, Superman, Dummy and JT.
