Musicians from different Christian denominations belted out praises to the Lord at this year’s two-day Call to Worship Africa celebrations that began yesterday at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).
The gospel musical fiesta, which last year featured Grammy award winner Don McClurkin, has this year been extended to include Africa and is now called “Call to Worship Africa” with branches in countries such as South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria and Malawi. One of the event organisers Alfred Nhambirwa said music was a powerful tool for communicating with God.
“Music makes communication with our creator simple and more enjoyable and as Africans, we are known for expressing ourselves more through music,” he said.
He added that the timing of the event was more significant to the country as it came two days after Independence celebrations and was also a call for Christians to continue praying for the country.
Nhambirwa said those attending the worship nights will be treated to some of the best fusion of African sounds from the Praise and Worship Team drawn from across different churches in the country.
“We have an inter-denominational praise team called ‘Call to Worship Praise and Worship Team’ which comprises members from different denominations including United Methodist, Roman Catholic, New Life Covenant, to name a few and will be ministering through song,” he said.
Co-founder of Ebenezer World Outreach Ministry, which organises the annual event, Pastor Charlotte Pike, said the ministry sought to minister the word of God through music and creating a channel for reaching individuals by spreading the Word of God.
“Zimbabwe is faced with challenges that appear insurmountable, but it is our belief that a little help goes a long way in transforming lives, even if it is one life at a time. Call to Worship Africa is there for the restoration of souls through praise and worship,” said Pastor Charlotte.
