The Botswana Under-20 team for the Caf Youth Championships football qualifiers against Zimbabwe at Barbourfields Stadium tomorrow are not happy with the standard of the hotel they are staying in.

The 25-member Botswana delegation arrived in the country at midnight yesterday after they had problems with the immigration department at Plumtree border post.

Head of delegation, Phillimon Bunu, yesterday said they would be making an official complaint to Zifa and hope that they will be moved from the hotel just out of town.

“We arrived late yesterday and we had to go through many formalities at the border. At least there were some Zifa people waiting for us and we got help from the police. The hotel we are staying in is of low standard, with very old beds and the food is not good. The whole team is not happy. Right now we are on our way to Zifa to inform them and hopefully they will change the hotel. Maybe this is a strategy to demoralise our boys,” Bunu said.

Young Zebras head coach Odirile “China” Matlhaku said conditions at the hotel would definitely affect the performance of his team at Barbourfields tomorrow.

The Botswana team had their first training session at White City Stadium yesterday and are today expected to have a feel of Barbourfields.

“That will definitely affect the performance of the players, but we are promising good football. We have a group of supporters who will be arriving tomorrow morning (today). We had our training in the morning and I am still working on a few tactical changes in the team.

“I don’t know anything about the Zimbabwe team except for those players who took part in previous competitions against us, but all my players are ready to win,” Matlhaku said.

Matlhaku is assisted by Mogomotsi Teenage Mpote. Goalkeepers’ coach is Mokwadi Charles and the manager is Charity Madisa.
