BINGA A 36-year-old man from Siabuzuba village was on Tuesday slapped with a 12-month jail term for assaulting and breaking his 61-year-old grandmothers ribs using a log.
Naison Siambwezele was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the assault charge when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu.
The court, however, suspended six months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.
The court heard that on March 23 this year, the complainant Estah Mudimba asked her unidentified nephew who was passing by in the company of Siambwezele to assist her carry her roofing poles from a nearby forestry plot.
But Siambwezele told the teenage boy to refuse the order, thereby courting the ire of the old woman.
She confronted Siambwezele and reprimanded him for teaching the lad wrong morals.
In a fit of rage, Siambwezele picked up a log and assaulted Mudimba, breaking her two ribs in the process.
She was taken to Binga Hospital for medication. The matter was later reported to police, leading to Siambwezeles arrest.
