Police are investigating the death of a one- month-old baby who died at the weekend in Waterfalls and was found with missing parts from his face.
Harare provincial spokesperson Inspector James Sabau confirmed that the deceased, Isaac Gift Chinhoriro, who died on Sunday at Hopley Farm, Waterfalls, had his nose and one eye missing.
Isaac had been left in the custody of his father Paul Chinhoriro who then took him to his aunt when he had fallen asleep. The mother of the child is said to have come back after sometime to find her babys clothes with blood.
This allegedly prompted her to call the aunt who then called the father of the child.
The father took the baby to his house, intending to change his clothes and rush to hospital, but before he could do anything, he realised the baby had already died, Sabau said.
The father then discovered that the nose, left eye and the upper part of the left eye had been removed. A report was then made at Waterfalls Police Station and the body was taken to Harare Hospital for a post mortem.
Sabau said Isaac had been with his father when he fell asleep.
Sabau said it is alleged that no one entered the room until the mother of the child came to check on her son.
