Matobo Senator Sithembile Mlotshwa says she has organised free eye treatment for all participants at a belated Women’s Day commemoration set to be held in her constituency in June.

Addressing a Matobo Rural District Council meeting on Friday, Mlotshwa said she had invited several opticians to conduct free eye tests and treatment as a community service. She said Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe will be the guest of honour at the launch of the project.

“The belated women’s day commemorations will be held on June 2 and we invited all women to attend,” Mlotshwa said.

“We will also bring the eye clinic doctors who will offer free treatment to women and elderly men. “Though it will be Women’s Day commemorations, we would also consider elderly men for treatment.”

She said the opticians would dispense free spectacles and medication to those in need.

l Meanwhile, NewsDay yesterday erroneously referred to Deputy Speaker of Parliament Nomalanga Khumalo as Matobo Senator in a report where Mlotshwa had criticised government’s stringent requirements for villagers seeking birth certificate and national identity cards.

The correct position is that the remarks were made by Mlotshwa and we unreservedly apologise to the two legislators for the error.
