Police yesterday released names of 10 of the deceased from the West Nicholson accident which claimed 12 lives on Monday night.

Six of the victims were burnt beyond recognition. The 10 were named as Candice, Nozimuhle and Ephraim Sibanda from Nkulumane (relationship not clear), Gideon Ncube from Emganwini, Percy Dlamimi and Thandiwe Siwela from Pumula North, Thandeka Ndebele from Emakhandeni, Dalubuhle Ncube from Entumbane, Lungile Ndlovu from Nkulumane and Nkosinathi Ndlovu from Makokoba.

Acting Matabeleland South police spokesperson Sergeant Loveness Mangena said they were still withholding identities of two others as their next of kin were yet to be informed.

The accident occurred at around 8:30pm at the 181km peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road when a South African registered Toyota Hilux double-cab truck allegedly encroached onto the lane of an oncoming Volvo haulage truck.

Both vehicles exploded into flames on impact.
