A Zanu PF central committee member, David Ndlovu, has lashed out at his colleagues in Bulawayo Province for conducting a “trial” of embattled party provincial chairman Isaac Dakamela in the media instead of waiting for a formal enquiry to be instituted.

In an interview with NewsDay yesterday, Ndlovu said party members who were talking about the issue in the media were displaying ignorance of Zanu PF’s procedures on disciplinary matters.

“We are tired of hearing wild statements from party members on this matter, which is a display of ignorance of party disciplinary procedures,” he said.

“We can’t have Dakamela tried in a public court before a proper hearing is done.

“People are already taking sides for and against him and this is prejudicing the process.

“Dakamela should be regarded as innocent until he is proven guilty.” Ndlovu added that the province only makes recommendations to the national leadership on issues like suspension.

“If the authorities find there is overwhelming evidence against the person they automatically suspend the person, but if it needs to investigate the issue, an investigator is appointed and in this case it happens to be the national commissar, Cde Webster Shamu,” he added.

The Zanu PF politburo tasked Shamu and the party’s national chairman, Simon Khaya Moyo, to investigate the Dakamela saga.

Shamu is expected to visit Bulawayo this weekend on this mission.

Dakamela was suspended two weeks ago by the provincial co-ordinating committee over allegations of corruption and insubordination and replaced by his deputy, Killian Sibanda.

Fireworks are expected at the meeting that Shamu is likely to convene at the weekend.

A member of the politburo, the party’s highest decision-making body in between congresses, Sikhanyiso Ndlovu is said to be in Dakamela’s corner, while others like Joshua Malinga and Eunice Sandi-Moyo are allegedly supporting the suspension.
