A top Caf instructor, Sunday Kayuni, will be in the country next week to conduct a Caf B Licence course where the country’s national football coaches are expected to attend.

The highly regarded coaching course will run from April 23-29 in Harare. Confirming the course, Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches’ Association (Zisca) chairman Bhekimpilo Nyoni said he was expecting at least 40 coaches to attend the coaching clinic.

“The Caf B Licence course will be conducted as part of our efforts to ensure continued performance and development of our local coaches. It will be conducted by instructor Nelson Matongorere and another Caf instructor Sunday Kayuni from Tanzania. Matongorere will do the first two days and then Kayuni will take over from there. First preference for the course will be given to those that have Caf C licences,” said Nyoni.

Some of the local coaches who have C licences and are expected to attend include Madinda Ndlovu, who is based in Botswana, Lloyd Mutasa, who heads Green Mamba in Swaziland, Warriors assistant coach David Mandigora, Misheck Chidzambwa and Tavaka Gumbo.

“It will also be open to all the national team coaches and we have already sent our invites to them. We have three groups who completed their Caf C licences and we expect all of them to attend, so we are looking at not less than 40 coaches to attend this course,” added Nyoni.

National team coaches who have confirmed participation are Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo, his assistants Peter Ndlovu, Mandigora, Calisto Pasuwa, Richard Tswatswa, Mighty Warriors gaffer Rosemary Mugadza and her assistants, suspended Warriors coach Norman Mapeza and Taurai Mangwiro, the ex-Young Warriors coach. “The Caf B Licence coaching certificate is now a minimum requirement standard by Caf before any coach can sit on the bench in any Caf-organised competition, thus the need to equip our national team coaches,” Nyoni said.Participants will be accommodated at Zifa Village and will have their sessions at Rufaro Stadium.

Nigeria is the latest country to hold the course after 80 coaches, including Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi, went through their paces last month. Ghana will hold their course in June.

The course is a step higher than the C Licence, which is basically a beginners’ course and attendants, with approval from Caf, can move to the A Licence after completion of the second stage.

Meanwhile, Level One coaching clinics have started across the country.

The clinics started a fortnight ago in Harare and continued in Matabeleland North last week. Next week, Gokwe will host the course.
