Gloves are off between Prime Minister (PM) Morgan Tsvangirai and Indigenisation minister Saviour Kasukuwere with the latter declaring he will not be stopped by anyone, calling himself “a Hitler tenfold”.

Kasukuwere remained defiant yesterday, saying he was responsible for administering the Indigenisation Act hence he will not take orders from Tsvangirai whom he labelled a “mouthpiece of British Prime Minister David Cameron”.

“I am still the Hitler of the time. This Hitler has one objective, justice for his people, recognition of independence of his people and their right to resources. If that is Hitler, let me be a Hitler tenfold,” Kasukuwere charged.

Ironically, Tsvangirai is Kasukuwere’s boss in government structures where he deputises President Robert Mugabe and chairs the Council of Ministers.

Kasukuwere’s contempt for Tsvangirai drew the ire of the MDC-T youth assembly who said:

“Kasukuwere has put the country and the government into disrepute by continuously saying statements that contradict government policy. He continues on his deluded path of believing his wishes should supercede government policy.”

The party’s youth assembly secretary-general Promise Mkwananzi said: “We cannot embrace policies that are motivated by greed and primitive accumulation of wealth. The youth of Zimbabwe have not seen a cent from the so-called indigenisation programme.

“Maybe he has joined the Zanu PF succession race.”

MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora added:

“The letter (by Kasukuwere published in the media yesterday) betrays the main strategy by Kasukuwere and his faction in Zanu PF to undermine the inclusive government and authority of the Prime Minister.

“Kasukuwere’s move is unintelligent and populist. The letter makes it clear that he boycotted the meeting on purpose, but the PM had called the meeting to discuss indigenisation. That Kasukuwere and company did not go to that meeting means they did not want it discussed.

“The incompetence by Kasukuwere is an embarrassment to Zimbabwe. The PM and the MDC are for broad-based economic empowerment and the benefit of the generality of Zimbabweans for the benefit of all Zimbabweans irrespective of their political opinion or the colour of their skin.”

However, it is Kasukuwere’s attack on Tsvangirai yesterday which was seen as an indication Zanu PF was out to frustrate, hound and collapse the inclusive government. Kasukuwere described Tsvangirai as a puppet of the West, a sell-out and a coward barely weeks after he described him as a “loose cannon”.

“In the past few days, MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has sought to abuse his role in government to undermine the laws of our country.

“He has brought us a tired legal opinion written by white supremacists in Whitehall and those still in Salisbury, seeking to overturn the empowerment programme,” said Kasukuwere in the letter he said was to update the nation on a “number of issues”.

“We have had enough time to play and we are determined and will not, even for a moment, waste our precious time sitting down and listening to their masters speak through them.”

In apparent reference to last week’s refusal by the Zanu PF component in the government to attend a special meeting chaired by Tsvangirai last Tuesday, Kasukuwere said: “We refuse to attend meetings where (British Prime Minister) David Cameron was about to address us through a courier.”
